Book Review: The Demon’s Lexicon by Sarah Rees Breenan

The Demon’s Lexicon is an urban fantasy novel taking place in the United Kingdom. Fitting, as the author lives there. The characters of the Demon’s Lexicon are very well written, and the plot is amazing. There are a lot of twists and turns, and funny moments, and intense ones that made this book really hard to put down.

Alan’s amazing. I identify with him the most because of his disability, and I love, how like me, he doesn’t let it get in the way of protecting his brother, Nick. Nick’s personality is a polar opposite, but I refuse to say why, or you won’t read the book.

The other characters in the story, Olivia, Jamie, Mae and Black Arthur were well rounded, and each of them had a purpose, which made reading about them interesting, and well done. I am looking forward to the Demon’s Covenant, the second of the books in the series.

Movie Review: Push

This movie was well worth the wait. Dakota Fanning has amazing role as Cassie Holmes, and she did it well, just like she does anything else. I don’t know the other people that were in the movie, so I can’t compare their acting skills to anything, but Camille Belle did excellent as well.

The story is very… X-men like to say the least, but it also reminded me a tad of Firestarter in some respects. What I loved best about this movie was the fact that each type of psychic had a name. Pusher, Mover, Watcher, Sniffer. These are all types of psychic gifts. Pushing might be pushing it a little far (no pun intended), but all of these other things are said to exist.

I knew I was going to like this movie because of the subject matter, but having Dakota Fanning in a role, and seeing Summit go beyond the Twilight Saga made me very happy. Oh, and what I love best is that they left it wide open for a sequel or a fanfic. I usually don’t like movies like that, but I think this one worked quite well.

I do know that I am probably not going to be watching the movie with Kathy because she talks alot when she doesn’t understand something, and just like Twilight, I want to be able to watch the movie in silence, and enjoy the action.

Great job, Summit. Another home run!

Book Review: Ender’s Game

This book was amazing. I know a lot of people claim not to be able to get into it, but I devoured it, despite all the non-free time that I have. It was one of those books where I could’ve read it in 3 days, but didn’t because I wanted to savor it.

Ender Wiggin is a character that I found very easy to sympathize with. I liked his supporters too, Petra, Alai, Bean. They were all brilliant children who remained in the background as Ender rose to the top.

One surprising character taht I didn’t think I’d end up liking was Graff. He could be a real jerk on some levels, but in the end, he turned out alright, I suppose. I won’t give details.

For me, who does not like too much Science Fiction, this book was an exception to the rule. I want to read the other books in the series. Will start looking for them used online. Especially Ender’s Exile, the direct sequel to Ender’s Game.
